Helping parents build a foundation for their young child’s future athletic development
About The Preschool Athlete
Welcome to the Preschool Athlete! My name is John Ozmun and I created this website for the purpose of providing parents of preschoolers tons of resources to help them prepare their young children for a future of successful sport participation. The Preschool Athlete website offers a number of resources including video clips of sport-related activities, equipment descriptions and recommendations, and an informative blog focused on a wide variety of topics related to physical activity in young children. The Preschool Athlete recognizes that young children 2-5 years in age are experiencing some of the most exciting times developmentally. They are not miniature adults and must be treated in a unique way appropriate to their age. It is the intent of the Preschool Athlete to provide developmentally-appropriate guidance to parents who are just not sure what to do with their little ones when it comes to sports.
Parents, you might have had a very negative experience yourself with sports when you were in school. Maybe you were always one of the last picked for a team, and then once the game had started you couldn’t perform the skills very well. You would absolutely hate to have your young child experience what you went through when he or she gets older but just don’t know how to avoid it without completely avoiding youth sports all together. Or maybe you know a little about sports and can’t wait until your young son or daughter gets a bit older so you can shoot hoops or head to the tennis court with him or her. In the meantime what can you do with them when they’re little? You might be a single parent who just needs some simple, inexpensive ideas to keep your child active and healthy.
It’s my hope that the Preschool Athlete website can help parents find activities, equipment, and other resources to help their young child be physically active and get a good start on developing a solid sport skills foundation.
